Abstract

The first issue of Volume 5 of the International Journal of Neurology (1965) was dedicated to brain tumors. It began with editorials in Spanish and English and presented a comprehensive set of articles addressing experimental, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of neuro-oncology. Studies explored the presence of viral particles in chemically induced brain tumors, the localization of neoplasms through angiography, and innovative imaging methods such as radioisotope detection and pneumoencephalography. Additional contributions discussed the diagnostic value of electroencephalography, as well as advances in pituitary surgery and cerebral implantation of radioactive materials. The issue also featured pioneering work on regional chemotherapeutic perfusion and infusion techniques for brain and facial tumors, along with a technical description of a stereotaxic apparatus for neurosurgical procedures. It concluded with a section on personality, reflecting the journal’s ongoing integration of clinical, technical, and humanistic perspectives in neurology.
